Spring has officially sprung – April showers have since blown over, and May flowers are now fully in bloom. And the longer and warmer days serve as an important reminder: Peak travel season is just around the corner. Now is the perfect time to spring clean your hotel.
A deep clean makes a difference. For guests, cleanliness is the most important factor that determines if their experience at a hotel is positive or not. And it’s not just guest room cleanliness that matters – overall property cleanliness is key, too. Here are the top 10 places to refresh as you prepare your property for a busy few months ahead.
1. REVIEW YOUR WEBSITE
Your hotel’s website is the first touchpoint guests have with your business. Make sure it’s up to date, easily navigable, and SEO-friendly. Don’t forget to include directions to the hotel for those hitting the road this summer!
2. TEST YOUR TECH
Check that your WiFi, in-room technology, online booking and sales systems, and any other digital services you provide run smoothly and quickly.
3. TAKE A WALK
Tour the exterior of your property to make sure sidewalks and other walkways are clear and accessible, landscaping is refreshed, outdoor furniture is intact, and the parking lot and entrances are clear of trash and debris.
4. FRESHEN UP THE FRONT DESK
The lobby and front desk serve as the first impression of your hotel. Bring spring inside with fresh flowers or plants, and deep clean tile, carpets, and other upholstery.
5. HELP YOUR HVAC SYSTEM
Ensure the air inside your hotel is as fresh as it is outside – replace air filters and clean vents to help your HVAC systems run effectively.
6. POLISH YOUR POOL
On hot summer days, guests will seek refuge in the pool. Give poolside furniture a good clean, power wash the tiles or sidewalks, and brush the pool’s surfaces, including the bottom and walls.
7. SCOUR THE SHOWERS
Descale shower heads and faucets, scrub the grout, and swap out shower curtains and liners to make these spaces truly sparkle.
8. LOOK TO YOUR LIGHTING
Light fixtures aren’t always in your (or your guests’) line of sight, which means they can accumulate dust and cobwebs. Dust lamps, ceiling lights, and chandeliers, and replace lightbulbs to ensure your hotel is seen in the best and brightest light possible.
9. WASH YOUR WINDOWS
Curtains and blinds absorb odors and attract dust. Vacuum your window treatments, then wash them or send them to the dry cleaners. Clean windows internally and externally to maximize natural light and enhance your guests’ views.
10. GO OVER YOUR GUEST ROOMS
Go above and beyond your routine room turnover. Clean any upholstered items, rotate mattresses, check for wear and tear on linens, and sanitize high-touch surfaces.
