AAHOA Lifetime Member Viral (Victor) Patel began his hospitality journey at age 13, when he left India for the United States. After first arriving in New Mexico, he later moved to Pennsylvania to live with his sister’s family. Decades later, that journey has led him to serve as the 2026 Board Chairperson of BWH Hotels.
“It’s a dream come true,” Patel said, adding that he feels honored and humbled to have been elected by his peers. ”I’m continually inspired by the dedication of my fellow board members and the BWH Hotels leadership team. I’m grateful to serve alongside them as we support our hoteliers and strengthen the brand.”
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see an AAHOA Member like Victor step into this important leadership role,” said AAHOA Chairman Kamalesh (KP) Patel. “Victor’s journey reflects the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit that define our members. We’re proud of his accomplishments and look forward to continuing the strong partnership between AAHOA and BWH Hotels as we work together to support hotel owners and strengthen our industry.”
“Victor is a trusted leader whose guidance will be critical as BWH Hotels embarks on a transformational year, enhancing the customer journey through digital innovation, refreshing our loyalty programs, and equipping hoteliers to deliver unforgettable stays,” said Larry Cuculic, president & CEO of BWH Hotels.
Although Patel spent his teenage years working in hospitality, he initially envisioned a different career path. He planned to follow in his father’s footsteps, who was an attorney in India, as well as a certified public accountant, a businessman, and a farmer.
However, when his father became ill, Patel returned to India. There, he met his wife, Sejal, and the couple later returned to the United States to begin building their future together.
At 26, Patel became the owner of the Best Western Corbin Inn in Corbin, Kentucky, a property he still owns today. Under his leadership, the hotel has earned numerous accolades, including the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award 10 times.
Patel said serving as BWH’s Board Chairperson is especially exciting, as the company prepares to launch a new loyalty program later this year.
Despite his many accomplishments, including serving as an AAHOA Ambassador, Patel says what keeps him in hospitality is simple: The people.
“It’s the serving of guests, the intrigue of meeting new people,” he said. “We’ve had many repeat guests over the years. They ask about our daughters. They’ve become family.”
Patel is also looking forward to attending AAHOACON26, where BWH Hotels, a Platinum Industry Partner, will be a sponsor of AAHOA’s Stars, Stripes & Liberty Nights event on Thursday, April 9.
Patel said the keynote speakers are often his highlight. Many have the same background as him – starting in a new place with no friends or parents and not speaking the language.
“Their journeys remind me why I love this industry,” he said. “Every story of perseverance and success fuels my passion to give back – to my fellow hoteliers, our industry, and my community.”
Outside of BWH Hotels, Patel has served as Board Chairman of the Corbin Tourism & Convention Commission and was the first hotelier to chair the Kentucky Travel Industry Association. He lives in London, Kentucky, with his wife and their two daughters – one an attorney and the other in dental school.
