10 Ways to Get Involved with AAHOA Advocacy

October 19, 2026 by Today's Hotelier Leave a Comment

For hotel owners, advocacy isn’t optional – it’s essential. AAHOA works year-round at the local, state, and federal level, protecting members’ interests on the issues that matter most to their businesses. From quick actions to hands-on engagement, there are a number of ways for members to make their voices heard through AAHOA. Ready to get involved? Here are 10 ways to start.

1. READ THE IN YOUR CORNER ADVOCACY BRIEF.

AAHOA’s monthly advocacy enewsletter features the latest updates on AAHOA’s advocacy efforts, opportunities to get involved, and stories of how members are making an impact.

2. VISIT THE ACTION ALERT CENTER.

AAHOA’s Action Alert Center highlights AAHOA’s legislative priorities and provides resources that make it easy for members to contact their state and federal legislators about these bills.

3. CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES.

AAHOA Members are encouraged to make their voices heard any time, not just through the Action Alert Center. Check out 10 tips for effective political advocacy here and contact your representatives.

4. HOST A BACK OF THE HOUSE TOUR.

Back of the House Tours provide elected officials with firsthand knowledge of the hospitality industry, the impact small business owners have on local communities, and the policy priorities of hotel owners. Email advocacy@aahoa.com to set up a tour.

5. TAKE PART IN AN ADVOCACY DAY IN YOUR STATE.

Many state lodging associations hold advocacy days in their respective state capitals. These gatherings offer AAHOA Members and others the chance to meet with elected officials to discuss crucial issues facing hoteliers

6. ATTEND AN AAHOA NATIONAL ADVOCACY CONFERENCE.

AAHOA’s National Advocacy Conferences bring together hundreds of industry leaders and hoteliers in Washington, D.C., to engage with elected officials and make their voices heard on the issues that matter most.

7. ATTEND AN AAHOA TOWN HALL.

At Town Halls, members learn about the latest issues in their regions and local advocacy updates. Plus, they can ask questions, discuss specific concerns, and voice opinions on policies that affect their businesses.

8. APPLY TO SERVE ON AN AAHOA COMMITTEE OR AS AN AMBASSADOR.

Members of the Government Affairs Committee play a pivotal role in shaping AAHOA’s legislative priorities. And, AAHOA Ambassadors communicate with members throughout AAHOA’s regions, helping to escalate their concerns and priorities to Regional Directors and other AAHOA leaders.

9. LEARN ABOUT THE AAHOA PAC.

The AAHOA Political Action Committee (PAC) contributes to candidates whose policies and interests align with the needs of AAHOA Members. Members can suggest a legislator for AAHOA PAC to support – email the Government Affairs Committee at advocacy@aahoa.com.

10. DOWNLOAD THE AAHOA APP.

With the AAHOA App, members can explore and register for advocacy events, access the Action Alert Center, learn about and contribute to the AAHOA PAC, and receive timely advocacy updates.
